Chocolate Swiss Roll

It's been raining since the early morning on Sunday, and after coming back from the wholesale vegetables market with Hubby, we had a simple breakfast at the mall nearby, and went straight home. Rainy days always makes me very lazy and I try to stay indoor as much as I can, hehe, just love to cuddle up with my dog and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, and chase my K-series 😛😛😛

However, sometimes, the kids will make some request for this and that, and I'm always happy to receive such orders. So, Angel made a request to bake her Chocolate Swiss Roll and Hubby, before leaving to work, said to bake anything that he can have for breakfast tomorrow morning. To fulfill their wishes, I made a Chocolate Swiss Roll and also a Taiwanese Castella Sponge Cake , both happens to be their favourites.

I only recently learnt how to make Swiss Rolls, and have been practicing quite a bit, as the baking, temperature controlling and the rolling still needs a bit of a practice. Therefore, this Chocolate Swiss Roll is my first time too, but basically I used the same recipe as the Vanilla Swiss Roll, just add 2 tablespoons of unsweetened Cocoa Powder to the flour.

Here is the recipe card for you , hope you take some time to bake one, and let me know how you like it.

Note : Please kindly monitor your own oven temperature as some bakers told me to bake at the upper rack for 10 mins @ 150C, then bring the rack down to the middle and bake at 170 for another 10 mins. But , still I would suggest that you learn your own oven's temperature as it's all varies.

Till then, Happy baking!

Hurricane Swiss Roll ~ Bamboo Charcoal

Oh dear, now that I'm aware, I haven't been posting for a few months, due to the busy schedule , you know, year end and new year......all kinds of agendas coming up, datelines to meet and things to prepare for the new year 2019. Anyway, it's all finally over, and life has come back to the normal pace, and just a glimpse of an eye, first quarter is done!!

In fact, during those MIA times, I did bake quite a bit, just that it never crosses my mind to have it recorded down and you know, snap a pic before eating it, not in that kinda mood at that time, cos it's always so rush. Sorry, my sincere apologies, but I promised I'll make it up to you all, one by one, 😂😅

So, I'll start of with this Hurricane Swiss Roll, as it was a hottie 'talk of the town' last year and I saw endless postings from bakers on colourful hurricane swiss rolls daily in social media. So, of course, I wouldn't want to miss that chance to get my hands together and drew up some hurricane patterns, but my first one was a disaster as I can't remember which end I started drawing and which end I ended, ALAS!!! I had the pattern switched and the hurricane was missing 😓😑 Well, I believe in practice makes perfect, so I did not give up, and gave it another try, and the second one was a success, bbbbbuuuutttt.....
before I decided to snap a pic of it, I already slashed it as I couldn't wait to see if I got the pattern right this time, you know, after the first incident, you can't wait to see the result of the second one.

Ahhhhh, WTH! This one, this time, I am very confident that it'll turn out pretty, so I waited patiently to only cut it after all those photo shooting, hehe 😜 and here it is,
ta-dah!!!! Presenting you my Bamboo Charcoal Hurricane Swiss Roll 😘😋

Give it a try, it is fun and in fact very amusing when you are making it. I don't know about you, but I always think back to the very first hurricane swiss roll, you know like "d" creator of this Hurricane swiss roll, he/she must be a creative and artistic person, I meant, how did it occur to him/her to have an art incorporated into a Swiss roll? I'm shocked too 😮😮

Anyway, here is the recipe and instructions, you may download it here and here.

Happy Baking and let me know how you like this Hurricane Swiss Roll!

OREO again...but Chiffon Cake

Oh yes, you heard me right, it's OREO ...again?! hahaha......sorry I was basically in the mood for any OREO baking recently and therefore, this was baked. I would say you'll not regret baking it as it's so airy and soft and its taste delicious of course, anyway, what's not with OREO right?

Anyway, its really easy to make , and I'm pretty sure you already have all the ingredients required in your pantry already. I bookmarked this recipe from Anncoo Journal's blog quite sometime already. And guess what, I made 6 of it within 2 days as one of my gym buddy ordered 4 nos for her daughter's kindergarden teachers as a 'Thank You' gift, then the other 2 was one for my k-zai and another one for kids at home.

Here is the recipe for you to give it a try, bake any chiffon cakes like usual, just that this one, save some whole OREOs for decoration too. I will also link back the original recipe from Anncoo Journal here, just in case you wish to check it out.

You may download this recipe by clicking on the link below:

Hope you give this a try and let me know if you and your family like it or not, and if you have any questions about baking, please do comment below or Like my Facebook page and comment there, baking is always fun when you have a group of people sharing tips and ideas and sharing recipes to bake together.

Till then, Happy baking !

OREO Mille Crepe Cake for My Twins' 18th Birthday

Yes, it was my twin boys' 18th birthday on the 4th Nov and every year I would make a birthday cake for them. They don't really like rich and dense cakes, and normally I would either bake a Japanese Cottonsoft Cheesecake or a  Castella Sponge for them. However, lately I have been baking a few bit of Castella Sponge cakes , and I guessed they had enough of it, LOL 😄😄😄

So, I decided to try my hands on this Mille Crepe cake instead. As always, when anything that requires a frying pan and stove, I'll normally delegate the job to Hubby 😝 (as some of you may know already that I have a chef husband). I have indeed wanted to try making this cake for a long long time, especially when there was a time, where the world suddenly gone craze over this mille crepe cake. However, knowing that I need a lot of patience standing in front of the stove, low fire grilling at least 20 pieces of crepes, that turns me off 😅😅

But, well, you never say never , as one of these days, you'll change your mind and would just give it a try, WTH right? That's right, this is the day!! 😉 So I chosed this OREO Mille Crepe Cake that I saw in the Youtube by Cooking Tree , you can check out her video here
(and make a little bit of changes for my own convenience).

The whole process was not a very difficult one, but I must say, making crepe cake, you must really have that 'patience'. The grilling of the crepes, and the assembling of the crepe, that is the part where your patience are really being tested, but I must say, at the end of the whole thing, seeing that one slice of crepe cake, so uniformly stacked , it's all worth the effort, and what's more, it tastes divine!! Ever wonder the feel of a bite on 22 layers of dark chocolate mille crepe, sandwiched in between white chocolate whipped topping cream and in between layers, there are crushed Oreo in it.............ooooh, need I say more? Make it and tell me how do you like it...........cos my boys loved it!

Here is the recipe for you:-

Do let me know how your mille crepe cake turn out, and I would love to hear from you!

Matcha Zebra Sponge Cake .....the all time fav!

Its weekend and weekends are normally dedicated to cooking and baking for me , if I don't have any special outing or programs, LOL

So this weekend, I baked the usual zebra pattern sponge cake, but instead of the previous Chocolate flavour, I changed it to Matcha aka Green Tea, it's the family's all time favourite.

This cake doesn't need much intro or description, as this is not the first time I baked. You can find the recipe in the link below, and of course , like I said, the only changes you need to make is by substituting the 1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder to 1 Tablespoon of Matcha or Green Tea Powder, and the rest of it are all the same.

Challah Braided Crown Bread - 4 strands

Hi everyone! The last time I baked a Challah bread was like years ago! Gosh!
Challah bread is a braided bread loaf either in a crown form or a long braided loaf form. It is originated from the Jewish, and they had this Challah bread during Sabbath or festive seasons, , which symbolizes joy and happiness.

Today I baked one with a 4 strand braid and I wanted it to be a crown bread, therefore after  shaping the dough and braided it, I placed it into an 8" inch round cake tin and bake it. Some even said it looks like a cake more than a bread 😂😂

Anyway, I still have a lot of braiding practice to do, as I don't give myself a pass in this one.....hmm, not that pretty 😕

Anyway, here is the recipe and also there is a Youtube link where I learnt to do the 4 strands braiding.

Here is the link if you wish to download the recipe and also the Youtube link for you to watch : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj8tuQ1RojM&t=16s

Hope you enjoy making and baking this Challah bread, do let me know what do you think of it, do you like to make more of this Challah bread? As I was challenging myself that I will try the 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 and 9 strands braiding in the future. Stay with me  and till then......

Black Beauty Chiffon Cake

In the month of September and October has quite a lot of Public Holidays, and this gives me the time to experiment and try out new recipes that I have collected and lining up to try out. As you can see, I have baked this Black Beauty Chiffon Cake, in fact it's just an ordinary Chocolate Chiffon cake , just that it's finished with a more sophisticated and classy look, hahaha 😂

As I have mentioned in my previous postings, that bakers nowadays are very creative, and they incorporate their artistic skills into their baking too. And without dragging this too long, I know you are very impatient, 😜 here is the recipe attached to how I got this cake done and it's actually, no rocket science, just a little piping here and there , trust me , it is 😊

The texture of the cake is very airy and soft, rich Chocolate chiffon pairing it with Cream Cheese in the middle layer, who could resist not giving it a try, right?  Here is the recipe for this beautiful beauty .....😋

You may download the above recipe at the following link below:

I have a few more artistic cakes that I'm lining up to try soon, so click follow on my blog and you'll be informed once there is a new post up. Thanks for dropping in today and have a blessed day, and hope you like this recipe and cake.....cheers!

Dark Chocolate Mooncakes

It's Mid-Autumn Festival today, all the mooncakes baking and making finally comes to an end. This year I think I baked the most of all the rest of the years before. In fact I was still having 2 on my list that I wanted to bake, and they are the ones that I haven't try making before.
Well, of course, even after the festive celebration is over, I can still make them for normal afternoon tea treats , 😂

Anyway, today I'm going to share the recipe of this first timer I baked last week and it's definitely also a keeper and a must have for the coming Mid -Autumn festival celebration.

Here's the recipe link for you to download:

By the way, I used Hershey's Unsweetened Dark Cocoa Powder and it tastes great. The sweetness of the moon cakes overall was perfect as I used the less Sugar Emerald Lotus paste.

Besides this, I also baked up a batch of Traditional Piggy Mooncakes for the kids and also to be given as gifts to my friends. I baked these piggies every Mid Autumn as they were so cute and everybody loves it.

The recipe for these cute piggies are from Anncoo Journal and I'm linking back to her , so that you have a clear picture of how she mould and shape the piggies too. Have fun!

Here's wishing all of you a very warm and happy Mid-Autumn Festival celebration with your family and friends.

And happy baking!!

Shanghai Cheesy Mooncakes.....My all time favourite

Mid-Autumn Festival is a week away , and everyone is busy and hustling to bake all the mooncakes they can bake.....and I'm one of them to, hahaha
Actually, I'm not quite a fan of mooncakes, even my kids and my Hubby too, they don't really care if there will be any mooncakes to cut on that festive day itself, as they never like mooncakes......not sure why, but for me, it's too sweet I guessed.

Anyway, every year, I make sure that I baked a batch of these yummy cheesy and melt in the mouth "Shanghai Mooncakes," and this recipe never fails me even on my first try. I fell in love with it the moment I took a bite, and ever since, it's been my 'must-have' for every Mooncake Festival. For this, my kids and Hubby , and even my in-laws loves it!

So, without further talking, let's start baking some of these goodies. I will not submit a recipe this time on my version, as I think justice will be made if I link back to the person who shared this recipe to the world 7 years ago, and she is non-other than blogger Ms Sonia of Nasi Lemak Lover. Thanks dear for the yummilicious recipe, Sonia!!😘😘😘

Recipe link as below :
http://nasilemaklover.blogspot.com/2011/09/cheesy-shanghai-mooncake.html

I did everything exactly as the original recipe, and did not twerk or change anything, therefore I suggest you follow the original recipe like I do 😉

Besides, doing a batch without the egg yolks (for the kids), I also did a batch with egg yolks as my in-laws prefer to have the ones with yolks. Here they are, hope you also take some time to bake both of these version, as it's so good!!!

 Hope you like it too!

Zebra Vanilla & Chocolate Sponge Cake

In baking, a lot agreed that it's actually not only about skill, but also about creativity and artistic too .

Recently I saw a lot of bakers playing with their bake goods....I meant playing in the sense that they added their creativity and artistic side into it.......for example, some shape their buns or paus into a pig or bear, some make leaopard, giraffe or cow's prints into their loaf of bread, it's super cute!! Then, some draw patterns and flowers on their Swiss Rolls, and lately, since Mid -Autumn Festival is around the corner, a lot of bakers also baking and creating really awesome and beautiful mooncakes , all colours, shapes and sizes, truly amazing!!!

I was way behind all this , and guess what, this is my first drawing project,  😂😂😂 I have always wanted to make it but it was always in the queue , but never got a chance. today finally!! I'm going to create my Zebra Patterned Sponge cake.....hope you try it and like it too! 😊

Here is the recipe , please take some time to try it out, it's fun and seeing the end result of the cake when you slice it......the satisfaction, it's so fulfilling.
