Chocolate Swiss Roll

It's been raining since the early morning on Sunday, and after coming back from the wholesale vegetables market with Hubby, we had a simple breakfast at the mall nearby, and went straight home. Rainy days always makes me very lazy and I try to stay indoor as much as I can, hehe, just love to cuddle up with my dog and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, and chase my K-series 😛😛😛

However, sometimes, the kids will make some request for this and that, and I'm always happy to receive such orders. So, Angel made a request to bake her Chocolate Swiss Roll and Hubby, before leaving to work, said to bake anything that he can have for breakfast tomorrow morning. To fulfill their wishes, I made a Chocolate Swiss Roll and also a Taiwanese Castella Sponge Cake , both happens to be their favourites.

I only recently learnt how to make Swiss Rolls, and have been practicing quite a bit, as the baking, temperature controlling and the rolling still needs a bit of a practice. Therefore, this Chocolate Swiss Roll is my first time too, but basically I used the same recipe as the Vanilla Swiss Roll, just add 2 tablespoons of unsweetened Cocoa Powder to the flour.

Here is the recipe card for you , hope you take some time to bake one, and let me know how you like it.

Note : Please kindly monitor your own oven temperature as some bakers told me to bake at the upper rack for 10 mins @ 150C, then bring the rack down to the middle and bake at 170 for another 10 mins. But , still I would suggest that you learn your own oven's temperature as it's all varies.

Till then, Happy baking!

Hurricane Swiss Roll ~ Bamboo Charcoal

Oh dear, now that I'm aware, I haven't been posting for a few months, due to the busy schedule , you know, year end and new year......all kinds of agendas coming up, datelines to meet and things to prepare for the new year 2019. Anyway, it's all finally over, and life has come back to the normal pace, and just a glimpse of an eye, first quarter is done!!

In fact, during those MIA times, I did bake quite a bit, just that it never crosses my mind to have it recorded down and you know, snap a pic before eating it, not in that kinda mood at that time, cos it's always so rush. Sorry, my sincere apologies, but I promised I'll make it up to you all, one by one, 😂😅

So, I'll start of with this Hurricane Swiss Roll, as it was a hottie 'talk of the town' last year and I saw endless postings from bakers on colourful hurricane swiss rolls daily in social media. So, of course, I wouldn't want to miss that chance to get my hands together and drew up some hurricane patterns, but my first one was a disaster as I can't remember which end I started drawing and which end I ended, ALAS!!! I had the pattern switched and the hurricane was missing 😓😑 Well, I believe in practice makes perfect, so I did not give up, and gave it another try, and the second one was a success, bbbbbuuuutttt.....
before I decided to snap a pic of it, I already slashed it as I couldn't wait to see if I got the pattern right this time, you know, after the first incident, you can't wait to see the result of the second one.

Ahhhhh, WTH! This one, this time, I am very confident that it'll turn out pretty, so I waited patiently to only cut it after all those photo shooting, hehe 😜 and here it is,
ta-dah!!!! Presenting you my Bamboo Charcoal Hurricane Swiss Roll 😘😋

Give it a try, it is fun and in fact very amusing when you are making it. I don't know about you, but I always think back to the very first hurricane swiss roll, you know like "d" creator of this Hurricane swiss roll, he/she must be a creative and artistic person, I meant, how did it occur to him/her to have an art incorporated into a Swiss roll? I'm shocked too 😮😮

Anyway, here is the recipe and instructions, you may download it here and here.

Happy Baking and let me know how you like this Hurricane Swiss Roll!

OREO again...but Chiffon Cake

Oh yes, you heard me right, it's OREO ...again?! hahaha......sorry I was basically in the mood for any OREO baking recently and therefore, this was baked. I would say you'll not regret baking it as it's so airy and soft and its taste delicious of course, anyway, what's not with OREO right?

Anyway, its really easy to make , and I'm pretty sure you already have all the ingredients required in your pantry already. I bookmarked this recipe from Anncoo Journal's blog quite sometime already. And guess what, I made 6 of it within 2 days as one of my gym buddy ordered 4 nos for her daughter's kindergarden teachers as a 'Thank You' gift, then the other 2 was one for my k-zai and another one for kids at home.

Here is the recipe for you to give it a try, bake any chiffon cakes like usual, just that this one, save some whole OREOs for decoration too. I will also link back the original recipe from Anncoo Journal here, just in case you wish to check it out.

Hope you give this a try and let me know if you and your family like it or not, and if you have any questions about baking, please do comment below or Like my Facebook page and comment there, baking is always fun when you have a group of people sharing tips and ideas and sharing recipes to bake together.

Till then, Happy baking !

OREO Mille Crepe Cake for My Twins' 18th Birthday

Yes, it was my twin boys' 18th birthday on the 4th Nov and every year I would make a birthday cake for them. They don't really like rich and dense cakes, and normally I would either bake a Japanese Cottonsoft Cheesecake or a  Castella Sponge for them. However, lately I have been baking a few bit of Castella Sponge cakes , and I guessed they had enough of it, LOL 😄😄😄

So, I decided to try my hands on this Mille Crepe cake instead. As always, when anything that requires a frying pan and stove, I'll normally delegate the job to Hubby 😝 (as some of you may know already that I have a chef husband). I have indeed wanted to try making this cake for a long long time, especially when there was a time, where the world suddenly gone craze over this mille crepe cake. However, knowing that I need a lot of patience standing in front of the stove, low fire grilling at least 20 pieces of crepes, that turns me off 😅😅

But, well, you never say never , as one of these days, you'll change your mind and would just give it a try, WTH right? That's right, this is the day!! 😉 So I chosed this OREO Mille Crepe Cake that I saw in the Youtube by Cooking Tree , you can check out her video here
(and make a little bit of changes for my own convenience).

The whole process was not a very difficult one, but I must say, making crepe cake, you must really have that 'patience'. The grilling of the crepes, and the assembling of the crepe, that is the part where your patience are really being tested, but I must say, at the end of the whole thing, seeing that one slice of crepe cake, so uniformly stacked , it's all worth the effort, and what's more, it tastes divine!! Ever wonder the feel of a bite on 22 layers of dark chocolate mille crepe, sandwiched in between white chocolate whipped topping cream and in between layers, there are crushed Oreo in it.............ooooh, need I say more? Make it and tell me how do you like it...........cos my boys loved it!

Here is the recipe for you:-

Do let me know how your mille crepe cake turn out, and I would love to hear from you!

It's the time of the year again to be spooky, creepy, freaky, you name it, I think I got it all! 😂😂 Yes, you are right, it's Happy Halloween!!

In Malaysia, it's still not a thing to celebrate out loud yet, after so many years, but getting better I must say. Hope in the future, one day, Halloween will be a nationwide celebration where every households who celebrate, will decorate and have Trick or Treats for all kids dressed up in costumes and going from house to house for trick-a -treating.......how fun!!

Anyway, without fail, every year I still bake and decorate some cupcakes for Halloween to give away to friends, and some for my kids to enjoy the celebration......just for fun!

This year I baked some Red Velvet cupcakes , recipe adapted from Cupcakes Jemma here and it's so easy to make and it's yummy!! Try it out.

Of course, I topped it with Vanilla buttercream and decorated it with Oreo Crunch and handmade fondant designs of a RIP tombstones, creepy crawly Spider 🕷🕸 and Boo the Pumpkin 🎃

I hope you like the cupcakes as much as I do ......have a creepy spooky Halloween......Boo!!

Happy Baking!
